PUBLISHER'S PAGE
I have written a number of times in this space about Gallery's investigative articles. Certainly they play an important part in our success.
But in concentrating so much attention in that area, I have overlooked another key ingredient in our overall editorial mix: the fine fiction that has at varying times excited, frightened, and amused our readers.
I'm reminded of this by the recent announcement that Tim O'Brien s novel, Going After Cacciato, was named winner of a distinguished National Book Award for 1979. Regular Gallery readers will remember that we excerpted a portion of it prior to the book's publication.
Another work that Gallery previewed, Inside Moves by Todd Walton, has now earned wide critical acclaim and is being made into a major motion picture by Paramount.
Just last month we offered an original 11,000-word novelette, The Crate, by Stephen King, author of Carrie, The Shining, and The Stand.
Also in last month's issue was a selection from The Bronx Diet, a hilarious new book by regular Gallery contributor Richard Smith. His earlier volume, The Dieter's Guide to Weight Loss During Sex, has been on The New York Times best-seller list for about a year!
In addition to these, we have published fiction by such celebrated authors as Ray Bradbury, Robert "Psycho" Bloch, Harlan Ellison, Evan "Blackboard Jungle" Hunter, John "World According to Carp" Irving, and William E "Logan's Run" Nolan.
On page 44 of this issue, you'll find a new short story by Nolan that I believe you'll particularly enjoy. If so, drop me a line about it ,.. and tell me what you think of our fiction in general. Your comments are always very much appreciated.
