First of all...
The editors of CARNIVAL feel that a good magazine should be able to speak for
itself. Thus it should not be necessary for us to tell you that our profile-in-depth
of David Merrick (The Beast of Broadway) is must reading for any lover—or
hater—of the Theatre. Surely it goes without saying that our choice of fiction,
including a polished gem by Ben Hecht (Fanny) meets the highest standards of the
genre, and that our articles contain the best elements of humor (Healers and Dealers),
pungent commentary (How Lolita Grew Up) and life's off-beat drama (Carnival in
Rio, and Rome: A Study in Scarlet and Lavender). As for the complementary art
and photos that accompany the above, they need no compliment from us ... So, without
