EDITORIAL
THE SLEUTHSAYER
They say "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". . . so think of this
issue as celebrating "sexiness in the eye of Sleuth."
Fourteen months ago we published our "25 Most Beautiful Women in the World"
extravaganza, and a great deal has happened in the world since then: Communism
has surrendered most of its capitals, America has surrendered most of its capital
to Japan, and Noriega has just plain surrendered. About the only thing that hasn't
changed, it seems. is that none of our "25 Most Beautiful" has grown
any less lovely. Thus, it seems silly to select a different set of 25 women as
most beautiful—ever wonder how Mel Gibson was "the Sexiest Man Alive"
one year, only to be buried by Mark Harmon the next?—so we've decided to
look at this annum's most awesome anatomies from another perspective all together:
"The 25 Sexiest Women of 1990."
Allow me to explain the distinction by citing the only holdover {I wish!} from
last year's rankings: supermodel Cindy Crawford. In my opinion, Cindy's clearly
more sexy than beautiful—there are lovelier models like Carol Alt, Iman,
etc., but none more sensuous—so the position she assumed earlier, #17 {again,
I wish} has been upgraded to #3 for this repeat rendezvous {I'm now out of wishes}.
Interestingly, Webster's Thesaurus lists more than two dozen easily recognizable
synonyms for "beautiful"... but none for "sexy." The closest
it can come is "risque," "racy," or "off-color'--none
of which really approximates what we're after {at the moment... }. Webster's Dictionary,
however spells it out better: "1. Exciting or intended to excite sexual desire.
Erotic; 2. Concerned to a large extent with sex." To which we can only add:
who isn't?
Therefore, each year I'll select and rank in descending order of allure the 25
sexiest women at that particular moment in time. Naturally these ratings are subjective
. . . but far be it from me to regard such gorgeous women as objects. Every few
months a new movie or TV show will inevitably thrust another sensuous siren into
our midst, and it'll be my job to keep on top of 'em! This year we've endeavored
to bring you a truly broad cross-sextion: one of the selectees { Umma-porn-star">Uma T. } is just
leaving her teens, ten are in their twenties, nine in their thirties, three in
their forties, one in her fifties, and one {Angie al just about to enter her ever-sexy
sixties. This compilation, we hope, is truly one for the ages. . .
As Lisa Hartman {vol. 1, no. 4} observed recently: "A star who objects to
attention is ungrateful. Whether the media portrays you favorably or otherwise,
the fact remains that being written about at all is a measure of your success."
Similarly, we think, being selected for inclusion in this blockbuster issue is
truly a measure of your sexcess.
CongraTulations!
