THE SLEUTHSAYER
"We were covering female athletes before the women's movement," boasts
Wide World of Sports host Jim McKay. "There were certain sports in which
they were just better to watch than the men." We second that motion, and
in this second issue uncovering "Good Sports" we're hoping to continue
our winning streak.
"Not too long ago," observed Strength Training magazine, "most
women who were dedicated athletes accepted the physical differences their sport
produced as part of the price they had to pay in exchange for the pleasure of
play. In contrast, today's sportswomen display their differences proudly."
Which is why we're proud to display fifty physical females who are always on the
ball—each at the top of her game. No wonder Strength Training concluded:
"A lot of sports fans have begun to pay more attention to the way women athletes
look as well as the way they perform."
And speaking of performance, that's also enhanced by sports! "Athletes are
so used to being body-oriented that sex is a natural part of their lives."
remarks one Boston sportscaster. "I think they're healthier that waythan
most people." Adds a champion female freestyle skier: "Some men think
that staying av,rai from sex psychs them to win, but most of the women I know
get psyched having sex!" As another top sportswoman exulted: "I like
my body because I like what my body can do. If a man rejects me, it's no big deal.
I figure he doesn't know what he's missing. "And the way we figure it, we
haven't missed too many winners. "Bodybuilding is sexual," claims a
leading lifter, and Arnold Schwarzenegger confirms: "Pumping is just as good
as humping." In that vein, we think showing is just as good as throwing...
"Once the season began," recalls an ex-teammate, "my idol offthe
field was Paul Hornung {whose ex-wife takes it off on p. 68}. I told mvse 'That's
how I want to be. I want to have all those women and I want to do it in style.
"That's our game plan, in keeping with the female athlete's lover ho concludes:
-I suppose the men who are threatened by strong women stay away or demean them
or make wisecracks. But let me tell you, they're realli missing something special.
"That's also the scouting report on this Olympian effort...so let the games
begin. Even if it's just an exhibition.
