THE SLEUTHSAYER
"Rock and roll was born of women," proclaimed the souvenir program for
this year's groundbreaking of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
"These tough-minded renegades forged a mythology, a formidable female archetype
that has enriched America's pop culture landscape." And now its time for
Sleuth to revisit this fertile terrain....
"Top 40" rhythms no longer merely dominate the world's transistors and
turntables...today, rock rules on television as well! Not only is MN the "Sound
of a Generation," but last January, according to TV Guide: "The American
Music Awards ranked only behind the Super Bowl in ratings the week it was broadcast.
To viewers, one award may seem as desirable as another," TV Guide continues,
"but to musicians there's really only one big enchilada. The Grammy is the
Oscar, the Emmy, the Tony, the Heisman trophy of music. You win, you're the tops."
And your tops will be in Sleuth....
In this elegant encore to last year's smash hit "Top 40!" issue, we've
grouped together four dozen of the biggest chart busters in the businessmore
than two dozen of whom have never appeared in the altogether in any previous publication!!
A perfect example is gorgeous Gretchen Palmer of the squeaky-clean Diet Pepsi
"Uh-huh Girls," who boasted upon recording the group's first record:
"This is a whole new image. Were not just about tight dresses and moving
with the music and smiling. There's something upstairs." Climb aboard for
Gretchen's forgotten flight of fancy on page 44.
Speaking of which, this is our 44th issueand that reminds me of the 44D
measurement of the lead singer of the hot new London group namedI kid you
notLOOK AT THE TITS ON THAT! "Originally, we were a no-hope rock band
called Traci & the Truckers," explains bass guitarist Colin Davis. "The
only positive reaction we got from audiences was when Traci walked on stage, and
invariably someone would yell out, 'Look at the tits on that.' So we changed our
name and it worked wondersthere's no way we're ever going to change it
again."
Same goes for the solid gold Sleuth...
