EDITORIAL
THE SLEUTHSAYER
In our initial "Sisters Under the Skin" edition more than 2-1/2 years
ago, we noted: "Nothing like this has ever been done before in publishing..!which
we think makes this issue doubly delightful! It's like getting two for the press
of one, presenting both sides now and, therefore, better by half." And now
there's a third...
"When we hear the word sibling," writes family psychologist Marian Sandmaier,
"we automatically think rivalry. From the Bible to Freud {see five of Siggy's
"dream" girls on pgs. 58-611 to the latest celebrity interview, bonds
with sisters and brothers are assumed to be fundamentally and permanently problematic."
Not for us...
"There's a chemistry between us," Sandmaier quotes one woman as saying
of her sister. "It's chemical. It's spiritual. It's spooky-spiritual. It's
so deep that you can't explain it to someone else. I can go only so long without
a sister fix." Ain't it the truth?
As a recent book entitled Mixed Feelings: Love, Hate and Rivalry reported: "Sister-sister
relationships are the closest of any. Sixty-one percent of women surveyed ranked
themselves 'very close' or 'close' to their sisters, compared to 48 percent of
men in regard to their brothers." But, the survey added: "Although sister-sister
relationships tend to be the closest, they also can be the most bitter."
By doubling your pleasure, we've made them all the more sweet.
A new hit sitcom, in fact, is ABC's Sister, Sister—starring identical twins
separated at birth {Nia Peeples and Valerie-bertinelli">Valerie Bertinelli?}. As critic Tom Shales
previewed the premiere: "This new sitcom doesn't just put on a happy face,
it puts on two, and they're not just happy, they're borderline delirious."
As we hope you'll be as you turn the pages...
Relatively Certain,
