THE SLEUTHSAYER
Entertainment Weekly recently paid referential tribute to "The Greatest Shows
on Earth" by listing the following: "Sophocles' Antigone. Da Vinci's
Mona Lisa. Mozart's Jupiter Symphony. Sherwood Schwartz's Gilligan's Island."
As EWexplained, "All great works of art have one thing in common: They endure.
To generation after generation, they deliver universal truths so searingly powerful
that they burn themselves into our collective unconscious—even if, on TV,
those truths are seldom more profound that You bet your hippy. The classics are
timeless." And now it's time for a classic "Tele•Visions 8".
.
"Everybody thinks they're the sleuth now," Dade County (Fla.) criminal
judge Marilyn Milian muses about the effect that daily television coverage of
the O.J. Simpson Trial is having in her courtroom. Even at the outset of the case,
Juice's lead attorney Johnnie Cochran made this prediction about his adversary
Marcia Clark: "She's very focused. It's going to be a major, major, major
matchup." But when this Sleuth pleaded to take her on, it was no contest
{focus on Marcia's overwhelming "Body of Evidence" as our opening statement
on the docket, p. 41.
Beginning with compelling testi-moaning from our twelve "Court TV" jurists
imprudent, Sleuth's witness list continues with the beat of "Vee•Jaybirds";
the X-cesses of "Fabulous? Absolutely!"; Spelling 'em out on "The
'Fox' Network"; nursing from the 19-inch screen that writer Harlan Ellison
calls "the glass teat" with five never-before-seen "Sit•Moms";
making waves with beach babes while "Channel Surfing"; relishing prime
choices in "Eighties Ladies"; and reaching a final verdict with the
Lynch party of "Latest {Twin} Peaks."
"Television is like an X-ray," concludes the tube's top designer Bob
Mackie. "It shows all. So the clothes have to be well made. They may only
be on the screen for five minutes, but they have to be PERFECT." We've tried
to come as close as we can for you...
Resting our Case,
