THE SLEUTHSAYER
"So what is behind this sudden obsession with lesbian love?," feminist
writer Jane Gordon queried in a May 1995 treatise on Lesbian Chic. "Because
we have been so desensitized through exposure to sexual imagery of every kind,
we are almost impossible to shock. But it is still shocking to see photographs
of two famous women locked in an embraceas magazine editors are clearly
aware. Sex sells," Gordon concluded, "even female homosexual sexmaybe
especially female homosexual sex!"
In the immoral words of shock jock Howard Stern: "My philosophy? Lesbians,
Lesbians, Lesbians. Lesbianism, let's face it, is a godsend. Every man in the
world is totally fascinated by those sisters of Sappho. I know I am. Just seeing
two girls eating each other out is beyond belief in terms of excitement level
{doublyso when they're celebs!}. Visually, it's a turn-on," Stern sums up,
"perhaps the most erotic thing one could watch."
Perhaps the most erotic thing one could have, then, is a 100-page, 100% ad-free
tribute to the beauty of two famous women in pictorial passion. We have brought
together more than two score of your favorite stars...and we all know it takes
two to score! But, first, a DISCLAIMER: Just as doing a girl-girl scene shouldn't
implythat the participants are lesbian or bisexual, one shouldn't inferthat inclusion
in this issue indicates anything about their preferences either! After all, that's
why they call it "acting"...
Noted psychologist Anne Hooper has found that: "The fantasy of two beautiful
women making lovewith the male either in a voyeuristic or participatory
roleis the single most potent sexual image for men." As comedienne
Nora Dunn, who now plays a lesbian producer on NBC's Sisters, hilariously put
it: "It's OK for two women to make loveas long as there is at least
one man watching."
"There is something special about erotic pictures of women together,"
feels a world-famous photog who specializes in such images, Bob Carlos: Clarke.
"The truth is that lesbian photographs represent the wilder, darker side
of life that is always appealing. For a man, they represent the mysterious female
at her most inaccessible. And that, in itself, must be a challenge." And
one we hope we've met...
