THE SLEUTHSAYER
"We hold these truths to be self-evident," was In Style magazine's Declaration
of Interdependence in its recent "Hottest Celebrities" issue. "Certain
things will always be sexy. But what's arousing at this moment? You need to know
what's sexy NOW?" You need Sleuth's annual "25 Sexiest Women" edition...
The times they are a-changin' {and the babes they are a-changin' clothes}. In
the words of Movieline: "As anyone with eyes and properly discharging glands
could tell you, we've seen a virtual gullywasher of fresh sexual charms on the
big screen in the past couple of years. And it's about goddamn time! Raw beauty
{see Vanessa Demouy, Charlize Theron and Deborah Unger} is helpful to the endeavor
of inspiring lust in dark theaters, of course, but qualifying as a sex object—and
sex objects are what we're talking about, let's not kid ourselves—involves
a zillion vibey things, not just a gorgeous exterior."
Which is why the acquired taste attributes of our Number 17, Sarah Jessica Parker,
led her to marvel: "I stilldon't see that sex symbol part of me. It feels
like the biggest hoax I've ever seen pulled" {pull over to p. 28 to see for
yourself}. Adds pulchritudinous Patricia Arquette: "My friends say, 'Those
people are talking about you.' It makes them a little awkward and I feel stupid,
because I really don't notice" {we did—which is why Patricia is #3}.
Lucky number 7 Natasha Henstridge is less coy: "When I read the script of
Species! knew there was going to be nudity in it, so that was the time to back
out. They didn't exploit me in any way. Sometimes you see movies and think, 'Why
are they naked? What's the point?"
Pointwell taken, and we know you'll be taken with her two dozen fellow "Sexiest"
sirens. And echoing Movieline's "fresh sexual charms" theme, ALL but
four of these sensuous sylphs are making their initial appearance in our annual
tribute! As famed fashion photog Patrick Demarchelier concludes: "The nude
is more free for me. I do a lot of fashion and the clothes restrict the photographs.
With nudes you treat the body more like a sculpture, ypu know. It can be hard,
it can be very sexy, very graphic. Some of the photographs I love the most are
of people who have never been photographed nude before."
