INTRODUCTION
LOOKING IN
Humor. An important counterbalance in life and the perfect antidote when you are
feeling low.
So relax... because we have a brand new feature titled Notes & Bolts. Designed
by Konrad Bonk, a Toronto artist who has gained a reputation in the good City,
not only for his artistic abilities but also for providing a haven for transient
rock groups.
Notes & Bolts will become a regular department in Elite and will be filled
with zany, topical items that are guaranteed to make you laugh.
R.A. (Dick) Leider, our U.S. correspondent has interviewed Ms. Georgina Spelvin,
the porn movie star who did everything but seduce the Devil in Miss Jones. Our
man in New York reports that she's into a new act which... but why tell you now.
Read it!
Toronto, Sin City of North America is going to make you want to kick yourself
when you read and find out what you've been missing... especially if you live
there. Jon. E. Topham who personally researched and wrote the article is now suffering
from battle fatigue... but he managed to transcribe his experiences while his
memories were still fresh. . even though his body wasn't.
C.W. Nicol makes his debut in Elite with Shamuta, a delightful piece of fiction.
Nicol who spent many years in the Middle and Far East has called upon his knowledge
of local customs and delivered a story with a difference.
We had reservations about publishing the article Our Changing Society" simply
because it deals with atopicthat is usually kept down... homosexuality. However,
Jack Maloney has managed to capture an objective insight into the "glitter"
world around us and deliver a factual article on what has and is happening today.
Child pornography has been an eyesore for legitimate publishers. But, it's common
knowledge that for many years and even during the Victorian era, this blight on
society has flourished. "Young Flesh for Sale is an in-depth report on child
prostitution in the New York area. It is revealing and shocking and will make
you sit back and say "do I know where my child is tonight?"
We haven't forgotten our basic features either. Sex-rated and regular movies are
reviewed plus music and also the Toronto music scene. This was written by O'Tucky
McLean, a Toronto native whose background is steeped in sound.
Pornocopia our feature on the true pornography in our society will make you cringe
but also make you realize just what kind of world we live in and
that we can no longer hide from these realities.
If Pornocopia will shock you then our girls will delight you. This month we are
featuring three of Canada's greatest assets... Lori, Karen and Felicia. They will
stir your blood and make your temperatures soar. Canada, to some is a frozen wasteland
but there is nothing cold about our ladies.
And last but not least... if you think that the magazine has taken on a new look,
it's because we have new art directors. Anne, Anne & Susan, three talented
ladies who have pooled their abilities and produced the finest Elite yet. We had
a lot of fun putting this issue together and we hope you will enjoy it.

I AM ASHAMED...
The other evening, I watched a Canadi - an talk show, whose star tries to emulate
Johnny Carson or Mery Griffin and fails miserably.
The guest was Bob Guccione of Penthouse magazine and the subject under dicussion
was the Canada customs decision to ban the May edition of Penthouse.
Before I go on, I would like to make clear that I am not standing up for a fellow
publisher because its only logical to state that, if Penthouse isn't allowed to
be sold in Canada then Elite magazine would get more newsstand visability. But,
I am against wrong censorship.
After watching that program and hearing the facts I was ashamed to be a Canadian.
The moderator was pompous, uninformed and a regular jack-ass. His questions bordered
on the ridiculous and some of his statements like comparing Penthouse to T.V.
Guide were asinine.
How Guccione kept his composure will go down as one of the wonders of the world.
Then, to and behold who should appear as a second guest but Roy McMurtry, attorney-general
of Ontario, Canada. For those who read this editorial outside of Canada, Mr. McMurtry
is the proverbial knight in white armour, who sits astride a white horse and tries
to make brownie points on issues like hockey violence, automobile seat belts,
pornography, common-law marriages and marijuana.
His greatest contribution to the subject was to state repeatedly "I haven't
studied Penthouse or I don't know too much about the magazine." That's great!
Here's a man, a representative of the people who has proclaimed a war on pornography
and yet confesses publicly that he has little or no knowledge of one of the products
he has condemned.
But I must not get carried away because the main issues are the laws of censorship
which are being imposed on us Canadians.
I will state categorically, that I am in favor of keeping the "shit"
magazines out of Canada. The publishers of that trash should be put to the stake
and burned along with their books. But Penthouse!
To compare that magazine with the other "slime" would be like saying
there is no such thing as oral sex.
And thats what Canada customs officials said was obscene and pornographic about
the May edition of Penthouse... it depicted photographic scenes of adults purporting
to indulge in oral sex.
Censorship is like power in the hands of a dictator. The wrong censorship can
slowly turn us into brainless, castrated eunuchs, whose will-power and natural
feelings will be controlled by bureaucrats.
Every day we decry the censorship problems that are happening in Russia, China
and South Africa and yet when it starts to happen to us, what do we do? Absolutely
nothing!
Are we well trained sheep? Are we children? Do we have to still put up our hand
to go to the bathroom?
If we are old enough to fight wars, get maimed or killed, then as adults we should
be allowed to read magazines which are highly regarded throughout the free world.
