THE POSTAL RIP-OFF
Although organized labor represents about 25 percent of all workers in this country,
unions are trying to dominate the entire working force and in doing so, are ripping
off the country... and one of the main culprits are The Canadian Union of Postal
Workers.
It seems that the postal union leaders are not concerned with the efficient operation
of the Post Office but only with themselves and the power they exert. The fact
that the strikes they initiate, at the slightest provocation, have an adverse
effect on the country's economy, does little to soften their demands.
And now, we have been told the news that we always suspected... there is vandalism
within the walls of the post office. Parcels are being ripped open, records are
being used as frisbees, magazines are being
appropriated for personal use and postal trucks are being used to deliver furniture.
As a Canadian businessman, I am fed-up suffering from the lack of services for
which I continually pay dearly. I am fed-up, knowing that when Christmas rolls
around.
I can look forward to the postal unions demanding more benefits or else they threaten
the country with a work slowdown or a strike.
Is there a solution? Certainly there is! Every problem regardless of size can
be solved providing the parties involved are strong enough to make decisions,
accept and enforce them.
First, the postal union needs reminding that we, the people are their employers
— we pay the taxes. Secondly, the government should intervene immediately
whenever a postal strike is imminent and not wait until it becomes a reality and
the country starts to suffer.
One could go on and on with suggestions but in reality it is the Canadian Government
that holds the key to the solution. We must insist that contingency plans be made
immediately in the event of a strike and they must be enforced. Let the unions
know that plans are in existence and hold it over their heads instead of the other
way around.
Canada is a great country, we enjoy a high standard of living. We have a great
future... let's not spoil it by allowing certain factions to get overly greedy.
