RACISM
More than half of white Toronto residents are racists. These are the results of
a $25,000 study financed by the federal Secretary of State and based on interviews
covering 100 questions carried out by 22 interviewers on a scientifically selected
segment of the white population.
Sixteen per cent of white Torontonians were found to be "extremely racist"
and 35 per cent inclined to some degree of racism. This means that there are 250,000
"committed racists" living in Toronto. Frightening . .. and sad! The
survey also found that the racists are opposed to inter-racial marriages; feel
that blacks and other minority groups are genetically different from white people;
that whites are more intelligent and willing to work whereas blacks are sloppy,
slow-moving and like to drive big cars and that the government should take immediate
steps to stop the immigration of minority groups. Doesn't this remind you of Herr
Goebbel's propaganda during the regime of Adolf Hitler?
Another and the biggest surprise of the study was that churchgoers or the more
religious are more racist than those who profess no religion.
Does this mean that the Church is preaching bigotry? Of course not! What it does
mean is that the Church has the means and the voice to denounce racism and that
their efforts should be immediately directed to reducing any form of racism among
their membership.
Racism, if it is allowed to mAnifest, can become.an extremely dangerous situation
in any society. Throughout the ages, racism has caused the deaths of millions.
We could start with the Romans who fed Christians to the lions ... because they
were different; the people who were killed and tortured during the Spanish Inquisition
... because they were different; the millions who were exterminated during World
War II by the Nazis . . . only because they were different. And let us not forget
the Ku Klux Klan whose philosophy wants to destroy anybody who, in their opinion,
doesn't conform to their idea of a true white American.
Maybe it won't happen here . .. but that has been the "cop-out" phase
since time began. You may find it hard to believe but we have a little bit of
the racist in all of us and we also have a tendency to disregard anything that
is repugnant and bury our heads in the sands.
To use the words of a Toronto resident who twice found a swastika painted on his
door, "Toronto should spend as much money on combatting racism as it does
on snow removal because racism is going to become as hazardous to the city as
snow if something isn't done to reverse the trend."
The key words there are "reverse the trend" because if we don't we could
be living in a city of hate very shortly and will no longer be able to refer to
Toronto ... the Good.
And should any of our community leaders read this article and feel that a publisher
of a men's magazine should not be writing on such a subject because it's hypocritical,
let them remember one thing. Scientific studies have proven that magazines such
as Elite, do not contribute to any form of criminal offenses ... but racism does
kill. And to those who are advocating a "clean-up" of Toronto let them
start within the church.
