PUBLISHER'S STATEMENT
OUTRAGED!
In the April issue of the Canadian edition of Elite we decided, because of censorship
problems, to cover certain parts of our models' anatomy with black circles imprinted
"Banned in Canada."
Since then we have been overwhelmed with mail from outraged readers who felt that
their rights as individuals had been violated. The following excerpts from some
of these letters will give an indication of their feelings:
Dear Mr. Wells,
I have read your magazine every month. I have even driven to other cities to find
my copy of Elite when it cannot be found on the local newsstand. Elite has given
me some of the best reading, and I'm proud it's a Canadian magazine, but what
you did in the April issue is an insult to the healthy man who buys your magazine.
Pissed Off
----
Mr. David S. Wells
I buy Elite because I find it extraordinary . . . all the girls are very beautiful.
But the Easter Special . . . I find it stupid to put a black circle with `Banned
in Canada" on your photographs. Men want to see more and more, so don't be
afraid of the censors.
If necessary, increase the price of Elite, but continue to be as explicit and
stay the best magazine for men.
Yvon Gerard

Dear Sir,
After receiving Volume 5, Number 5 of Elite I just had to write. I subscribe to
Elite because your magazine was one that showed it all. I was disappointed to
see the center photo of Debbie, the rear photos of Roller Ball were censored by
"Banned in Canada."
Previous issues were not censored this way. I hope that you will be able to resolve
the censorship problem so that future issues will not be subject to this indignity.
Yours truly,
A.J. Schaffer
As stated previously, these are just excerpts from some of the mail we have received.
If you wish to help us in our constant fight against censorship, we suggest you
write or contact your local Member of Parliament.
Thank you.
