M.A.D. Mutual Assured Destruction
There's a dark mushroom cloud hanging over the head of every man, woman and child on the face of this planet. In the past, most people viewed the nuclear arms race as if it were a distant game of global chess. It's as if we are far removed from the very real threat of a nuclear war which would hurl us into a nightmare so horrible that it would surpass our most terrifying visions.
If you think this is just the opinion of one person, how about a few facts? The atomic bomb which destroyed Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 had an explosive power of 13,000 tons of TNT. That festering sore on the face of hUmma-porn-star">Umanity left 68,000 hUmma-porn-star">Uman beings dead and 78,000 injured, many of whom died slow and painful deaths from the mutilating effects of radiation. By today's standards, the horror of Hiroshima is kid stuff!.
Military strategists proudly point out that the smallest of modern nuclear weapons is three times more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb. Some have 16,000 times more killing power! There is now no doubt that the nuclear arms race has been set at overkill! If one nuclear weapon has the destructive power of 16,000 Hiroshimas, just figure it out. One of these apocalyptic deliveries could conceivably kill 1,088,000,000 people and wound 1,216,000,000 others. In case you misread the figures, that's billions not millions. And this is the result of just ONE thermonuclear bomb!
According to 1976 calculations, a single American Titan missile, or a Soviet equivalent, can deliver more destructive power than all the U.S. bombing missions of the Second World War put together. Six years ago, the United States had approximately 38 nuclear bombs for each of the 200 or so Russian cities with a population exceeding 100,000. By 1978, the bomb-city ratio had reached 50 to one. If one bomb is capable of destroying a city and killing its entire population, why do these two world powers seem bent on building their nuclear striking power to the point where they can destroy the world over and over again? This is insanity!
Whether it's in the spirit of capitalism or in the name of international communism, at the present rate we are being dragged down the road to certain destruction. The' theory of nuclear deterrents — they won't '‘ bomb us because they know we'll bomb them — is a crock of shit! There has never been an arms race in the history of mankind which has resulted in anything but WAR!
Without regard to your race, religion, color or social status, your life is being threatened every day and it's up to you to let your political representatives know how you feel. It's your ass on the line! It's my ass! It's everybody's ass!
In case you still haven't grasped the gravity of the situation on our planet, let's put it this way. In 1976, the U.S.A. had the nuclear killing power of about 615,385 Hiroshimas. Translation: 41,846,180,000 hUmma-porn-star">Umans dead, 46,769,260,000 hUmma-porn-star">Umans wounded. The total population of the earth is only 4,321,000,000*. You figure it out.
It's called Mutual Assured Destruction . . . MAD!
