An Exclusive Book Bonus
By Sandra S. Kahn, M.A. with Jean Davis, Ph.D.
In the '50s there was The Kinsey Report. In the '70s there was The Hite Report. Now, in this 48- exclusive book preview, comes The Kahn Report, the controversial bestseller of the '80s that tackles the question: What do men and women really like in their sex lives? And it delivers the answers. It's the first all-out effort that asks people what they really like best about sex—which isn't necessarily what they always get. Examine the reactions of people like you to sexual themes that include various intercourse positions, oral sex, foreplay, masturbation, triads, and lesbian sex. Take the self-test to discover your own sexual needs and preferences. Gallery is proud to be the only national magazine to bring this serious and important study to its readers.

PUBLISHER'S PAGE
Personal thoughts from my note pad:
• In my opinion, the magazine you have in your hands is one of the finest issues of Gallery ever published. It's also an especially important one. With all of the stories you have read for years about the potential danger of nuclear war, can you remember any that left you with more than just a disturbing—but somehow hazy abstract—fear? Unfortunately, if such a disaster were to actually occur—God forbid!—the pain and suffering would be all too specific and real. The Day a Nuclear Bomb Exploded in Denver, which begins on page 26 of this issue, is a vivid and scientifically accurate presentation of the hUmma-porn-star">Uman agony that would result from nuclear catastrophe. At a time when governments speak easily and threateningly about shelling out more and more billions for further development of arms, an article like this ought to be required reading for all citizens—and politicians.
On a different, but nonetheless fascinating level, is another Gallery exclusive in this issue: a 48-page pull-out preview of what may well be the most important and controversial social study of this decade, The Kahn Report on Sexual Preferences. You're in for a surprise when you take the self-test provided on the third page of the Report ... and you may be even more shocked by the results and explanations offered by researcher Sandra S. Kahn about the kinds of sex most enjoyed by men and women today. The Kahn Report preview alone is worth the price of the magazine; when you add the Denver article to the package, you will understand why we are particularly proud of what we have put together this month.
• Our most recent issue, May 1981, contained another interview by Dick Maurice, who had earlier introduced singer Wayne Newton to Gallery's pages. That reminded me of the incredible versatility of Maurice himself, and that of his producer, Gary Greco. Get this lineup of Dick's regular activities: He hosts a weekly television talk show on Ted Turner's WTBS-TV17 Superstation, which is seen on cable systems in 49 states plus Canada, Central America and Brazil; he also broadcasts a separate entertainment news/gossip segment on the Cable News TV Network; five nights a week, he conducts a radio interview show from the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas, which is heard from Miami to Los Angeles; he writes a daily entertainment news column distributed by Copley News Syndicate to hundreds of newspapers coast to coast, plus two weekly columns; on top of that, he provides a monthly column for Rona Barrett's Hollywood and Pizzazz magazines; and he has staged and produced such shows as Lola Falana's nightclub act, as well as a lavish star-studded extravaganza commemorating the 10th anniversary of our astronauts' first moon landing. When Dick's fans ask how he finds the time to accomplish so much, he kids them by insisting that he also "works three nights a week as a bag boy at Safeway." Nothing would surprise me.
• Try this little game on the next person you meet: Ask him (or her) to describe a favorite episode from the classic "Twilight Zone" television series that began way back in 1959 and was for about five years an Emmy Award-winning success. Even though the show has been off the networks for about fifteen years, almost everyone I know can rattle off the most incredible details of one or more specific episodes. Every survey taken by newspapers today includes "The Twilight Zone" among people's all-time top shows of the past quarter century. Now that Rod Stirling's THE TWILIGHT ZONE Magazine has been introduced on newsstands across the country, and local TV stations, in dozens of cities are running the original episodes, this country may once again find itself wandering around in the fifth dimension. Come to think of it, the way things are going, that may be an improvement.
• Finally, one more reason why this June issue is very special to me: the number 54 has somehow stayed with me through my life, and has, as a result, become "my lucky number." I took over as Editor and Publisher of Gallery effective with the January 1977 issue ... exactly 54 issues ago. If you compare the magazine today with what it was then, you will recognize why I feel substantial pride in what has been accomplished ... and you'll understand my deep gratitude to the men and women here who have made it possible.
