PUBLISHER'S STATEMENT

DEMOCRACY OR WHAT?!
Superdelegates: What the fuck is that about? The simple answer is the Democrats came up with superdelegates in the wake of George McGovern's disastrous loss to Richard Nixon during the 1972 Presidential election. To put it simply, superdelegates were intended to override the will of the people. "Next time the people pick an obvious loser," the Democratic politicos must have told themselves, "we'll step in and pick the candidate they should have chosen!"
As it turns out, had he won, McGovern would have been a much better President than Nixon. Here was a real statesman, a man who towered over the nasty, paranoid Republican candidate.
Democrats, of all people, should know better than to circumvent the Constitution. Let all elections—the primaries and general elections—be decided by popular vote. Neither of the two major parties should resort to any delegates.
