EDITORIAL NOTE
Let's not waste too much time introducing the ingredients of this Knave, shall
we? Quite frankly, those absurd biographical details about contributors that you
get in other men's magazines bore us stiff. Besides, most of this month's contributors
are established favourites with regular Knave readers already, so we are happy
to present you with the same mixture as before—but even a little bit better
! That's the mixture of daring pictures, candid articles and stylish stories which
has made Knave the only quality men's magazine in Britain with a growing circulation.
And you don't have to take our word for that. Figures recently prepared by the
Audit Bureau of Circulations confirm what we've said all along—that sales
of Knave continue to rise and rise. On the subject of confirming what we've said
all along ... we recently went to see London's smash-hit stage comedy "Funny
Peculiar", which has scenes in it of a candour you'll probably never see
in Knave. And we were pleased to see that the Saturday night audience—predominantly
elderly and middle-aged—were having the time of their lives! Their comments
overheard at the interval included "It's very vulgar isn't it?" and
"I've never seen the like of it before" ... but nobody walked out in
disgust, and the cast and the play were given a rousing acclamation at the final
curtain. Which just goes to prove what the self-appointed censors refuse to believe
: that the expression of sexual freedom is not the monopoly of a licentious minority
who try to force it on the rest of us, but it's something that nearly everyone,
of any age and any class, enjoys now and again. We'll drink to that.
