EDITORIAL Dancing around the Maypole is a fertility rite that is very rarely practised
any more. Instead we now drive to the sea, watch television, or simply sun it
up in the privacy of the back garden with a copy of Men Only in our hands. And
why not, indeed, when the contents of our magazine offer all the delights of festivity
and sex which the summer sun encourages in the thoughts ? It's a good buy for
all occasions.
This month's issue contains the expected high quality in both visual and verbal
treasures. First and foremost are the ladies
(since it is the month of May), namely Maxine, Alma, Sheena and Shirley, with
Olivia coming last but not least. The ladies are also well represented in the
shape of Fiona Richmond, who sweated through exotic Bali, and Ann Summers who
writes in her usual lucid fashion and also offers guidance to those in need.
Our lead fiction this month is by the colourful Jack Trevor Story, who lives in
Hampstead, enjoys drinking in pubs, and is never less than prolific as a writer.
For this month's interview Mike Bygrave, late of Time Out and now one of the country's
brightest young journalists (also the author of a splendid novel, About Time,
published in paperback by Quartet at 60p), tackles the high-powered financial
world encompassed by Mark McCormack. A Jay Gatsby -figure on the international
sports scene, Mr McCormack has evolutionised the business by turning famous sportsmen
into glamorous figures and making a mint in the process.
Also included is a re-vamped 'Gentlemen of Leisure' (now called 'Hot Pourri'),
Karl Steiner on 'The Booted Foot', 'Modus Operandi' and Mr Izard. Enough for your
May weekend. Tony Power.
