EDITORIAL
THIS IS THE START of that summer period when we all begin to feel indolent - no matter what the weather is up to. We spend many hours laid-back in the studio studying the dozens of photographs from which we choose just a few each month - photographs of beautiful girls, posing, pouting, bending, stretching, smiling, and all basically beckoning us out of the office on to a cool verandah or a long, shimmering beach. Stern is the voice of duty when work calls, and we obey. You appreciate our efforts. And the range of beauties we've found for you this month will certainly stir you further.
There are a few verbal goodies lurking as well. Oddly enough, although everyone has heard of George Raft, nobody seems to regard him as one of the really great Greats. Maybe not, but he had a rumbustious life. Our young reporter Ian Blair tracked him down in a restaurant and encouraged him to reminisce. The anecdotes came and some of them are worth repeating - spicy and ever so slightly scandalous.
Ace thriller writer Francis Selwyn comes up with another Verity tale, this time plunging the gruff Victorian detective into the rather refined atmosphere of an Oscar Wilde situation. And if you want to know how today's private eyes operate, then turn to Humphrey Evans' report on time he spent pretending to be Philip Marlow. You want more? You've got it - humour, letters and the king of all cars, the Rolls-Royce. Be like us ; lay back and enjoy./Roger Baker.
