NIFTIEST PROTEGE to submit to the directorial ministrations of ex-Bardot epoux, Roger Vadim, is the exciting offspring of Henry Fonda named Jane. Eclipsing the epic image of the original B.B., Jane has been called "B.B. Americaine" by curve-conscious Frenchmen. She appeared in a movie version of the French farce, La Ronde—produced and directed, no less, by the talented Vadim. Wrapped in a bed sheet as per script—hair wildly touseled as per Bardot—the statuesque daughter of Fonda made her mark on the continent, and perhaps a dent or two in B.B.'s prestige.
ASSIONATE PROOF that "love" is worth the sacrifice of both money and fame is provided by Broadway belle, Elizabeth Ashley. Following the ad or vice of her stage mother in Barefoot in the Park, Elizabeth obeyed the wise words: "Make him feel important. If LE, you do that, you'll have a happy and wonderful marriage—like two out of every 10 couples." Grabbing her 20 per cent of that likelihood, 25-year-old Elizabeth applied it, not to her husband, whom she plans to divorce, but to cinemactor George Peppard, 36, whose wife is divorcing him. Borrowing $35,000 to pay off the remaining six months of her Broadway contract, she sped to Peppard's side via intercontinental jet to London, where Peppard is presently filming Operation Crossbow. That is a lot of loot for love.
LATEST CHAPTER in the saga of blonde blockbuster Jayne Mansfield is her marriage to husband No. 3. Wed in Mexico, Jayne celebrated by ordering a red Ferrari costing close to $30,000, and a town house in New York City. The house, according to Jayne, cost a quarter of a million dollars—and then some. The 31-year-old sex symbol swapped brawn for brains when she traded in muscleman and former husband, Mickey Hargitay, for 28-year-old stage genius Matt Cimber. This time, however, buxom Jayne may have bitten off more than she can chew. Cimber sports a 165 I.Q., and is reported to be nobody's fool. As to outsmarting her formidable spouse, Jayne may be able to figure out a way. She maintains that her own I.Q., one of the few measurements which she seldom publicizes, is 164—a figure almost as formidable as her vital statistics.
