INTRODUCTION
"I like the boys who come over to the apartment to talk with me," relates
Vivi, "but I do not understand the ones who ask me to dress up and go to
nightclubs. In Lapland we must rest in our huts from all day chasing the reindeer,
and the nights are cold. Here it is not so cold, but I still do not understand."
Well, Vivi certainly carries around the kind of insulation that would keep her
warm under any circumstances. And her pilgrimage to Stockholm has done more to
heat up the hospital she practices nursing in than all the reindeer blankets her
homeland could produce in a year.
Says Vivi: "It is strange, but doctors and interns get nervous when I walk
the hall. And my male patients, their eye dilates and their pulses move fast when
I come to record them."
But that's no surprise. In fact, it looks like the boys in white had better be
on self-contained refrigeration units when Vivi carries the aspirins. And because
a hospital is only supposed to induce R&R, this depolarized version of Florence
Nightingale may someday find herself out of a job.
But a minor cataclysm like that shouldn't really bother Vivi. After all, she's
blessed with Fido, a bright future in modeling, and a body measurement of 42-26-37
to help keep the wolves at the door.
And if she ever sets her mind to it, this Laplander is sure to land in a helluva
lot of laps.
