realize that's a bold statement to make, but NEW RAVE is a magazine
I've been thinking about creating for many years — as far back as the
late '70s, when I was one of New York's top fashion photographers,
shooting for such publications as Vogue and developing projects for
companies like Jordache, where I initiated their now-famous jeans'
campaign. When I left fashion to shoot for Penthouse, and other top
men's magazines, I was frustrated. I realized there was so much more
that could be done visually — so much more raw energy that could be
injected into the photography. I've always been on the cutting edge of
my craft, and I finally got tired of waiting for the men's field to
catch up.
That's why I've created NEW RAVE: to bring you a new type of
photography, something never seen before. And to strip away everything
anyone has ever thought about a men's magazine. After 20 years of the
same, tired old stuff, it's time to recreate the genre from the ground
up.
NEW RAVE is everything that's new, innovative and hip. This is a book
for the young man of the '90s. Or for those who think young. It is a
book for people who want to be entertained — a ride through a
wonderland of high-tech electronics, erotica, sports, humor and other
male-oriented diversions. None of the gloom-and-doom found in so many
other men's magazines. You've got enough to worry about.
So this is my pledge: I guarantee every issue of NEW RAVE will feature
a positive energy, both in its articles and pictorials. Everything that
I publish will be designed to uplift, not pull down. And though our
photography will be on the cutting edge, it will never exploit women.
Rather it will extol their beauty and Mystery.
NEW RAVE is the MTV of men's magazines: Sex, Fun and Rock & Roll.
