EDITORIAL NOTE
THE SUN RISES IN THE EAST
As I sit here at my desk tonight, trying to put this issue to bed by writing the
editorial, a combination of circumstances makes me ruminate about how unequal
the exchange of East and West seems to date. I'm not talking about the currency
exchange rate, but the "cultural" exchange. Whereas the Asian economy
is said to be in dire straits, the balance sheet I'm coming up with is greatly
weighted in their favor. To make it so simple that even a sports fanatic can understand
it, I'll call the Asians "Them" and the U.S. "Us":
So, before you start thinking that the East should become more Westernized, try
"adding up" the columns above. Before we try and impose more of our
economic system and "culture" on Asia, maybe we should study their ancient
culture and the imperial beauty of their women and realize that some things just
do not need improving, since they are innately superior.
