The Family Protection Act has been in the news more and more lately, and most
of the articles about it have been as dull to read as the Act itself. But if
you can wade through the swanp of verbiage, you will soon discover that the
import of the bill is anything but dull. On the contrary, it is a frightening
harbinger of things to come, not only because of the restrictions it would make
into law, but also because it would serve as the basis for even harsher interdictions
in the future. We urge you to read every word of "Protecting Ourselves
from the Family Protection Act" on page 28, which we think is one helluva
horror story.
The time to fight the Family Protection Act is now, before it has become the
law of the land. To that end, we have included on page 31 a self-mailing petition
of protest prepared by the National Gay Task Force, and we hope you will sign
it at once. Then find nine friends to sign the remaining blanks. You might even
want to have an Anti. FPA Party— it's a better excuse than many for inviting
a few friends over. And if you have no friends — tricks, neighbors, business
associates, relatives, and absolute strangers will do. Just get that petition
filled, before the dam breaks and you get washed away in the self-righteous
rivers of the New Right.
