As we begin our second year of publication, we find ourselves, Janus-like, looking
both backward and forward, appraising our past and formulating our future. Our
very first editorial stated our credo — "We believe that the homosexual
is, by very definition, a sexual creature, but also a creature with a mind.
And that is why we find it appropriate to stimulate both aspects of his unique
sensibility." We still feel that way. Certainly, in our first twelve issues
we have tried to bring you a book for both the brains and the balls.
Visually, we have aimed to provide something for everyone — photo-spreads
of the boy next door, the surfer, the bodybuilder, the ethnic, the All American,
the blond, the brunette, the hirsute, the hairless, the exotic, and the clone.
Textually, we have managed to assemble such fine writers as Patricia Nell Warren,
Wallace Hamilton, and Felice Picano (among many others), interviews with such
celebrities as Christopher Isherwood, Gore Vidal, and Eartha Kitt, and articles
on such varied subjects as fag-bashing, threesomes, and the current man-boy
love controversy. We are proud of the men and women who have graced our pages,
of the ideas and images they have shared with our readers.
We must be doing something right, for our circulation has increased with each
succeeding issue. Still, we would like to find what we have overlooked, what
else you'd like to drool over or read about in Stallion. Even though we do not
have a letters to the editor column, we welcome both your bouquets and your
brickbats, and especially your suggestions for the year — hopefully, the
years — to come.
The editorial offices are at 351 West 54th Street, New York, N. Y. 10019. We
look forward to hearing from you — rest assured, we'll read every letter
we get. Take a moment and let us know what you're looking for, so that we can
help you find it.
