Drunken Rant
Within the past few months, the police have conducted two high profile raids against
'pornography'. The first involved a student who had copied some of photographer
Robert Mapplethorpe's images as part of a thesis. The student had photographed
shots from a Mapplethorpe book, and the outfit processing the film decided it
was obscene and called in the police. The book had been borrowed from the library
at the University of Central England In Birmingham and, although the book's been
available since 1992, the police have told the publishers to destroy it. Since
when did a film processor become the arbiter of what's acceptable and what's not?
Slick to processing the fucking films. Unless you see a real crime being committed,
and you get a lawyer to confirm II before you talk to the police,1111 hand the
sodding photos over a`1!1 mind your own lucking busInes:'. More recently, one
of our regal: writers, David Dint, was raided and lost 535 video tapes, his computer
and VCRs, according to the papers. David's been writing for me since I was on
Knave, and knows his hard-core; that's why' he was In the middle of putting together
a book on the subject.', He's a respected journalist as w U as publisher of his
own magazine, but this seemed to cut no ice with the police. No word yet on whether
or not he'll gel his work back.
On another subject, we've had a lot of letters lately asking us if what we print
is the truth. Yes, our lawyers make sure it is. The video reviews, News of the
Screws and interviews are all true and the letters are written by you lot. We
don't even lie too much in the blurbs. Well, apart front the bits about not shagging
all the models, obviously. We have, and they loved it. Having said that, if you
read a girl blurb and we actually tell you that what we have written is true,
you'll have to trust us. Especially when you see the 63 year old woman we're going
to shoot for our upcoming Tits 'N Missuss Special issue...
