The Sleuthsayer
Marvelous Meryl Streep {a 4-time Sleuth uncoveree} may well be our
finest actress ever, but we wish she'd keep some advice to herself: "Young
actresses do not need to take off their clothes," she counseled fellow
4-time Sleuthette Keira Knightley and Scarlett Johansson when they posed coyly
nude for Vanity Fair's cover last year. "They obviously feel that, to emerge
from the pack, they need to distinguish themselves by being more willing to
do that than anyone else." Scarlett distinguishes herself on page 8.
Alas, many are heeding the acclaimed actress' advice: They want you to take
off your clothes all the time [for roles] when you're younger," huffs Jessica
Alba {bared in our last "Ingenudes," volume 17}. "I won't do
that. I don't do nudity. I just don't." And the former Dark Angel doesn't
"do it" for roles either: "From a really crass point of view,"
Alba asserts of having been propositioned for the casting couch, "if I
just want to fuck somebody, I don't really want to see him in the morning, much
less every day on the set."
Speaking of sets, Julia Stiles {"Ingenudes 14"} refuses to alter hers:
"I've walked into my dressing room, and had a desk full of fake boobs that
the producers have put there because they want me to have bigger breasts,"
claims the A-cup actress. "That's pretty blatant. I'm not stupid. I knowwhat
it means." And it means she'll never bare her buds onscreen: No matter
what the context is in the actual film," Stiles stipulates, "it can
end up as pornography on the Internet." Or in certain magazines...
This much is certain, Anne Hathaway has no body issues...as C-een in the prior
pair of "Ing6nudes"-even "letting her Brokeback Mountain
costar Jake Gyllenhaal {whose sister Maggie joined Anne in "Ingenudes 16"}
fondle her boobs for real, to make the scene as realistic as possible."
Admits Anne: "I'm in the car topless with Jake and he's touched my shoulder
and he's touched my stomach and he's touched around my back. Everywhere except
for, you know, 'The Girls.' I just turned to him and said, 'It's okay Jake,
you can touch my boobs.'"
But not farther south, cowboy! "I don't actively search for movies that
I can get naked in," Hathaway makes clear. "It's not the most fun
requirement of the job {speak for yourself!}, but nor is it something that I
would 'ever NOT do a job because of. It is what it is. I turned down another
movie because it was going to show a vagina-not mine, but somebody else's.
Some people choose not to do nudity on moral grounds. I think that's a shoddy
argument."
No argument here ...
