Playboy Italy first started publishing in November 1972. It was a very popular magazine for over 30 years. Italians are known for being very sexual and this Playboy magazine hit home with them. However, Italy was hit hard by a recession in late 2003 and Playboy magazine had to stop printing in December 2003 because it was no longer financially feasible to continue production of the magazine. They took a five year hiatus and began to republish the magazine in January 2009. The magazine is selling well again and they have continued to publish monthly ever since.
